The boys and I were having a cute conversation on the way to school this morning. I was telling them how as a parent you are expected to wake up and instantly be on the move! Sometimes I can get to dropping the boys off at school before I realise I haven't been in the bathroom, haven't looked in a mirror and did I put clothes on?? Touch wood, I have never walked out of the door in my pjs, but there was a time when I drove in my slippers, not so bad.
We talked about how they are all different in the morning. Phineas is usually first up and generally comes running through to our room, blanket and doo in tow, full of beans and raring to go, we may get a quick snuggle as he clambers all over our bed and maims Lewis in places we won't mention! He will then hand us both our "eyes" (glasses) and phones (bad parents!).
Next through is Esaias, who has usually been awake for a couple of hours already, and reading in his bed. Always totally chilled, we get a quick, "Hi Mum! Hi Dad! Love you!" before he takes Phineas downstairs for breakfast, thank heavens for small mercies, because next comes Caitlin.
Caitlin is not a morning person, never has been, and judging by her Father's standards, never will be! The wonderful, sweet girl who lives in our home from 4pm to 9pm is nowhere to be seen and this raging ball of hormones thuds around the house, grunting and moaning about EVERYTHING and EVERYONE because it is all WRONG! I pray for her future husband, I really do! It is really only so noticeable, because she is such a sweet kid once she fully wakes up, but it is made more comical by the fact that her hair is C-R-A-Z-Y when she first wakes up. She has volume in her hair that I pay to achieve! This is just an idea...
Finally Nathan emerges, and he was the one I had the hardest time describing. Imagine some kind of fluffy-hedgehog-koala-stick insect type creature. He comes snuffling out of his bed, and clings to the next person he meets, snuggling as close as he can get, doing more hanging than snuggling because he is all arms and legs!
And then of course it's like that scene from Home Alone where they rush around trying to get everyone out of the door on time....thankfully we haven't ever left one behind, though we did lock the door before Nathan came out of it once, that was a close call! I love being a Mum :)
